Dead synchronicity tomorrow comes today

The improvement of the dead

There is even the sensation that the mattress sinks or that we float: hence the term «the dead man rises» and the linking of this disorder traditionally with the presence of spirits or astral travel. The episodes last between a few seconds and three minutes, after which we regain control of our movements and consciousness. Most sufferers experience profound anguish and terror, especially if it is the first time they suffer from the disorder; for those who suffer from it recurrently, however, it is no more pleasant.

End-stage lucidity

Sometimes people with dementia at this stage cry and emit vociferations or moans, calling insistently to the caregiver.  Eventually, they lose the ability to communicate and may become unresponsive.

Their incontinence increases and their appetite decreases until, finally, they lose the ability to swallow, leading to poor nutrition and a high risk of aspiration.  Aspiration, where a person’s food «goes down the wrong tube» when they swallow it, greatly increases the risk of developing pneumonia as they are unable to cough and completely clear the food from their esophagus and then it settles in their lungs.

Another study that examined autopsy reports of people with dementia found that the leading causes of death were pneumonia, cardiovascular disease, pulmonary embolism, cachexia and dehydration.

The living will, advance directives or advance directives document is a written document where the person with dementia can express his or her will in advance. This can range from compliance with health care and treatment, when no longer able to express themselves personally, to the fate of their body and organs once death arrives.

Terminal lucidity

In the 1940s, sound films were a global phenomenon. In the United States they helped secure Hollywood’s position as one of the world’s most powerful cultural/commercial systems. In Europe (and, to a lesser degree, elsewhere) the new development was treated with suspicion by many filmmakers and critics who worried that a focus on dialogue would upset the main aesthetic virtue of silent films. In Japan, where Japan’s cultural tradition integrated silent films with live vocal performances, sound films took root very slowly. In India, sound was the transformative element that led to the rapid expansion of the country’s film industry, the most productive in the world since the early 1960s.

Innovations continued on other fronts. In 1907, Frenchman Eugene Lauste – who had worked in Thomas Edison’s laboratory between 1886 and 1892 – was granted the first patent for optical sound technology, involving the transformation of sound into light waves that were photographically recorded directly onto celluloid. As described by historian Scott Eyman,

A person in agony listens

We also spoke with Jaume Fábregas, the veteran, the expert on the Camino, a man who has emptied himself into this project, and thanks to him, to his knowledge and experience, it has been possible. «Today we knew it was going to be a very hard stage, that we had to burn our ships, and we were able to do it. I had not done this stage for a while and it is very complicated because of the hardness of the kilometers, to which must be added the bad weather.

Lunch was at Casa Morgade, where they have signed in the guestbook and have been presented with a delicious Santiago cake, whose recipe will give them luck for London 2012.    They left at 8 am and the leading group, formed by Alba Cabello and physio César Gutiérrez, arrived at 4.30 pm. The rest arrived in two groups, one and two hours behind the first ones.

Alba Cabello gave us a summary of today’s stage. «I had a better feeling than yesterday. Shorter stage in which I have gone with César (Gutiérrez) the physiotherapist of the selection, and we have made three stops of about 20 minutes. Today’s pace of everyone in general has been softer. It’s clear that right now my legs and feet are broken, but we’ll recover. We have two very hard stages left and Jaume Fábregas, our Camino expert, has told us to take it little by little, without obsessing,» he said.
