This is the direct sequel to Pillars of Eternity, the Kickstarter hit that materialized in 2015 on PC, and came to consoles in 2017 in a full edition. Pillars of Eternity 2 continued the story of the first game’s protagonist, and launched on PC in 2018. Now, it arrives on PS4 and Xbox but rest assured… you don’t need to have played the original to enjoy this sequel.

As we are going to see in this review of Pillars of Eternity II Deadfire for PS4 and Xbox One, the game puts us in the shoes of The Watcher, a being with the ability to communicate with the souls of the recently deceased, to help them find their way to the afterlife. This Watcher ended the first game by returning to his castle as a king.

The sequel begins with a brief review of the life and miracles of the hero to put us in situation (a quiet reign, without shocks…), to then see how a renegade god escapes and kills him. It is a way to force something as common in the genre as we go through the very complete character editor and create the hero as we please: class, race, appearance, specializations, assign points…
