the statement they wouldn’t let you see or hear.

Ricardo Alberto Barreda (La Plata, June 16, 1936 – José C. Paz, May 25, 2020)[2] was an Argentine dentist who in 1992 murdered his wife, Gladys McDonald, his two daughters, Cecilia and Adriana Barreda, and his mother-in-law, Elena Arreche.

Returning home at midnight, he called an ambulance service. When the police arrived he was calm and told the story of the robbery. Upon being taken to the police station, Commissioner Angel Petti gave him a copy of the Argentine Penal Code open to the page containing Article 34, which establishes the unimputability of those who do not understand what they are doing, due to insanity or other cause. Barreda apparently felt safe with this piece of information, and shortly thereafter confessed everything to the commissioner.[4] Barreda testified on the 7th and 7th of July and the following day.

Barreda testified on August 7 and 14, 1995, where he calmly told every detail of the crime to the judges who were part of Chamber I of the Criminal Chamber (Carlos Hortel, Pedro Soria and María Clelia Rosentock).[4] Bartolomé Capurro, an expert witness, declared that Barreda suffered from «delirious psychosis». This theory was only accepted by one of the three judges (Rosentock), and Barreda was sentenced to life imprisonment, for triple homicide and simple homicide.[4] The sentence was reduced to life imprisonment.
